ARCHIVO DE GECU GANA CONVOCATORA DE IBERMORIA

The Documentary and Audiovisual Archive of the Experimental University Cinema Group (AFA-GECU) of the University of Panama's Vice-rectory of Extension was one of the Ibero-American proposals selected as part of the call for proposals forResearch and Research Research and Research Programme 2024, byIbermemoria Programme.

AFA-GECU preserves the most complete 16 mm film file of the country, corresponding to the 1970s and 1980s, as well as material with a magnetic video format. Thanks to this distinction these images can be preserved on its original film support and put into place other spaces where to preserve similar video images and audio tapes that have some of our history.

That international attainment was a result of the continuous and progressive professional training that had been undergoing by the human team that formed this area of specialization at the University of Panama, the GECU, with the aim of accepting new challenges that represented keeping this audiovisual collection for the use and knowledge of all.

Ibermemoria is a program by the Ibero-American General Secretariat with the aim of applying models for the complete preservation of sound and audiovisual documents that form part of the intangible heritage of Ibero-American countries with a spirit of exchange, respect and technical cooperation.
