The Vancouver Latin American Film Festival Announces First Call for its WIP Section 'Afro Voices'

The first Section of Cinema in Construction (Work in Progress or WIP) Afro-Indigenous Voices at Vancouver Latin American Film Festival aims at directors, producers and writers who identify themselves as Afro-descendants or indigenous people from Latin America and the Caribbean and projects undertaken by Latin American creators in collaboration with these communities.

The call is for feature fiction, documentary or animation that are currently at a post production stage (advanced final cut) and will be open until October 30 of this year.

The aim of Vozo Afro Ingencias Voices is to familiarize festival programmers, independent room exhibitors, distributors, sales agents and television channels from Canada with what creators of indigenous and Afro-descendant communities are production in the Latin American region and to create a link with the Canadian audiences.

The requirements for new VLAFR Section are:

1. The call for proposals will be closed on 30 October 2020.
2. Postulation will be completely free through FilmFreeway.
3. Fiction, animation and documentary feature films with at least 60 minutes duration and with an advanced final cut shall be considered.
4. If the project and film are in a language other than Spanish (Portuguese, aymara, quechua, Guaraní, etc.), they should be sent with Spanish subtitles.
5. Two types of films will be accepted:
1. Projects by directors, producers and / or indigenous and / or Afro-descendant writers from the Latin American and Caribbean region and
2.    proyectos de directores, productores y/o guionistas de la región latinoamericana y el Caribe que se hayan realizado en colaboración con una comunidad Indígena y/o afrodescendiente de dicha región. Important: films that have been released in rooms or festivals cannot be submitted as the call is for projects that have been put up after production and have been put to an end.

Seven finalists will be selected as part of the virtual advice of film and television professionals in Canada to be held in December 2020 and the seven will compete for the $3,000 single prize for the winning project.
