IFF Panama continues to create opportunities for Central American and Caribbean cinema: Ariel Escalante's "Domingo and Fist" and Claire Denis's "Stars at Noon" tapes confirm their presence at the Cannes Festival

Both films have been supported by the Panama International Film Festival to be held.

The IFF Panama Foundation is pleased to report two news that we have been greatly excited about: the film "Domingo and the fog" by Ariel Escalante Meza, from Costa Rica and recognised with first place of the First Mirada 2021 Fund, as well as get a special mention at the First Central American and Caribbean Coproduction Forum - IFF Panama Film Match and has been selected in the program of the Festival of Cannes at Una Certain Regard (A certain look), while she confirms her film's presence at the same place as she goes to her film and she goes to her place at her place at her place. The IFF Panama Foundation has been with Ariel Escalante from its development to the post production period of "Domingo and Fog." That project was first selected by 2020 at the First Central American and Caribbean Coproduction Forum - IFF Panama Film Match, where it was recognized with a special mention from the Jury. That Forum was undertaken with the support of the BID Lab, Research Laboratory of the Qzx31qqQ Group.

In 2021 for the seventh edition of the Section of First View Industry "Domingo and Fog" earned the fund with an amount of USD 10,000 to complete its after production. First View was conducted with the contribution of the Inter-American Development Bank, BID.

That 87-minute supernatural drama tells the story of the town in which Domingo lives (65), a man with a widower field, and who's ambushed by thugs with a single mission: to expel people as preparations for the construction of a mega-road. But his land keeps a secret, and his dead wife's ghost visits him through the fog. Domingo is convinced that he will never surrender his land, even if this means resort to violence.

On the other hand, in 2014, the French filmmaker Claire Denis had been living with the experience of IFF Panama in our third edition, and was impressed with the energy of the Festival and the country. Denis put forward an opportunity to film a Central American story and put his place with Panama for his experience through the Festival.

He returned in 2021 to conduct the shooting of "Stars at Noon," generating an exhibition of Panamanian talent and industry at important cinema scenarios as the Cannes Festival and contributing significantly to interchange among industry members.

"Stars At Noon" tells the love story between a mysterious British businessman and an American journalist, accompanied by a dangerous network of lies and conspirations in Nicaragua in the 1980s, at the height of the Sandinista Revolution.

With an international-sized team, the film recast on its own ground was with the valuable participation of the Executive Director of the IFF Foundation Panama, Pituka Ortega Heilbon, who acted as an associate producer of the film with his daughter Marcela Heilbron and his company Hipatia Films leading the Panamanian crew.

The 75th edition of the Cannes Festival will be held from May 17 to May 28, 2022.
