DIY MURAL TO CHUCHU MARTINEZ IN ANNIVERSARY OF his DEAD
7 February 2022

On the occasion of the anniversary of the death of the Panamanian writer and academic José de Jesús Martínez, known as Chuchú, held on January 27, 1991, an event was held with his tribute through his dedicated Mural painting by the artist Guna Ologwagdi at the façade of the Experimental University Cinema Group (GECU) at the University of Panama.
The mural was especially performed for production of the documentary Fairy and the GeneralThat tells the story of the well-known poet and playwright, also university professor with Ph.D. in philosophy and mathematics, who in 1974 became a police officer at the National Guard and was assigned to the escort of General Omar Torrijos, starting a close friendship that remained until the death of the military in 1981.
That documentary was scheduled for a special projection at commercial halls at this anniversary date but was postponed until there was better health status in the country and so, to avoid passing the date, its directors and producers called this event around the mural for this symbolic event.
The painting represents different moments of life and political, social and literary circumstances of Martinez, a kind of Renaissance man with his reach and intellectual and academic dominion, and at this simple but significant ceremony they were present to remember and honor him family members, friends and leading members of his film work.
