September will mark a milestone in Panama's film history with the world premiere ofMy dear TropicatToronto International Film Festival(TIFF)The Fictional Film Retirement of the Retiring DirectorAna Endaraand the first film with mainly Panamanian production to feature at the prestigious festival. The TIFF, to be held from September 5 to September 15, is one of the most influential film festivals in the world, known for its ability to discover and promote new voices in global cinema. Its diverse audience and its great media impact make it a crucial platform for the launch of films that seek to impact both at a critical and commercial level.

 

FollowingMy dear Tropicwill have its European premiere atSan Sebastian Festivaland will be held from 20 to 28 September,Section Latin Horizons. San SebastianIt's one of the most respected and prestigious festivals in Europe, being a key meeting point for copyright cinema and a fundamental window for Latin American cinema on the continent.My dear TropicIt's the first film directed by a Panamanian who participates in this renowned festival.

 

Located in Panama City, this drama - atmospheric and delicate - explores the relationship between two lonely and different souls that develop a touching and unexpected link. Ana María, a Colombian immigrant who works as a care care and keeps a secret, crosses the path of Mercedes, a high-society woman, who faces an incipient dementia that's slowly purging his identity and his past.

 

The film was produced byIsabella Gálvezand once again co-operates with Endara, after working with her in two documentary feature films, strengthening a strong creative partnership.Paulina García(Chile), recognised for its"Glory."(2013) by Sebastian Lelio, for whom she won the Silver Bear for Best Actress at the Berlin International Film Festival andJenny Navarrete(Colombia), whose earlier film represented Colombia as best Ibero-American film at the Goya Awards. Also, Panamanian talent is represented byJuliette Roy, Syddia Ospina y Marisol Salazar.

 

During his post production phase, the film was awarded withFilm Award for European Distributors and Exhibitors at the Toulouse FestivalandHer Watch Award under IFF Panamaanticipates the impact that will have at its official opening.

The film was made with the financing ofPanama's Fondo Cine (DICINE), back up fromIbermeanand an incentive for minority co-production ofColombian Cinema Fund (FDC).

 

FIGa FilmsA well-known international distribution company dedicated to Latin American cinema, and will be charged with bringing the film to global audiences and ensuring its visibility and participation at key festivals and markets around the world. That collaboration emphasizes both the importance and international potential of the film.

Ana EndaraHe has directed four documentary feature films and "Dearest Tropic" is his first feature film of fiction. He also works as a video player at the Smithsonian Institute of Tropical Research in Panama. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Social Science at the State University of Florida (Panama Canal Headquarters) and studied Cinema at the International School of Cinema and Television of Cuba (EICTV).
