IBERMEDIA NEXT OPEN IN PiXELATL A POSITIVE BALANCE FROM its AID CONVOCATORY, WITH THE EXIST SUMMARY OF MOST CIEN PROJECTS presented

• 104 animation co-development projects between Spain, Portugal, Italy and Latin American countries have been submitted to this Ibermedia Programme initiative with varied formats including short films, pilots and teasers.
• The IBERMEDIA NEXT PLAZA platform, established to promote networking among professionals, has registered 630 unique users.
• That information, attesting to the suitability of IBERMEDIA NEXT's commitment to Ibero-American animation, was presented at the current Pixelatl Festival, to be held till next Saturday in Guadalajara (Mexico).

 

Guadalajara (Mexico), Thursday, September 7, 2023 - IBERMEDIA NEXT has put forward at Pixelatl the first conclusions of its call to advance the potential and creativity of the Ibero-American region, with its deadline closed on 21 August. The 104 projects submitted reveal the interest that this initiative, financed with NextGenerationEU funds, has awaken in the sector.

 

That's how his representatives at Pixelatl have been revealed: Jara Ayucar, Director of Marketing Policies at the Institute of Cinematography and Audiovisual Arts (ICAA, Spanish Ministry of Culture), José Luis Farias, Executive Producer of the Quirino Awards and Silvina Cornillon, Manager of Animation!

Of the total projects, 71 have been submitted from Spain, 22 from Italy and 11 from Portugal. The 104 leading production companies from the three European countries have been allied with companies, professionals and owners of Latin American IP from Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Ecuador, Guatemala, Mexico, Panama, Peru and Dominican Republic.

One of the most innovative aspects of this initiative is the opening up of projects for demonstration purposes. A bet made with light to the typology of projects submitted, including Teasers (33), Pilots (22) and Prototypes (16). Also, applications have been received for the development of short films (25), video clips (1) and other formats (7). The projects selected will be supported as financing, of a non-refundable character and also through a complete programme of consulting, communication and promotion.

José Luis Farias, Executive Producer of the Quirino Awards, points out that "The Valuation and Consulting Committee has a great job to do to evaluate applications and select the most solid and leading projects. Ibero-American animation has a great deal to say in the current and future of the sector, and we have at our hands the proof that proves it."

For his part Víctor Herreruela, Coordinator of the Technical Unit of the IBERMEDIA Programme, explain that "the quantity, quality, diversity and number of countries involved in the projects received have exceeded our expectations, and they were already high. We are ready to say that this initiative will mean an important impetus for the immediate future of Ibero-American animation."

The interest of IBERMEDIA NEXT to serve as a meeting point among professionals is confirmed by its leading role in key events of the sector, from the opening of the call, that was held last May 12 at the Quirino Awards, to the activities organized at Annecy. Following up with the initiative's schedule, after the date of receipt of applications and after the first valuation, the status of applications will be checked on the website www.ibermedianext.com. The decision to call will take place before the end of the year.
